Inspiring meetings

Start leaning in.

A beautiful thing happens when every person in a team is engaged in solving the same problem. People lean in, rather than lean back. They stand up, they get involved, they talk and debate and share perspectives with passion and energy. This is the unmistakeable signature of a LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® workshop and is the hallmark of teams using both creative and rational thinking to tackle a problem.

Avoid group-think.

In most meetings, 80% of the talking is done by 20% of the people. Whether it’s because of status, distraction, confidence or group dynamics, the stark reality is that 80% of the human capital in meetings is usually disengaged from the conversation. The LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® core process avoids this by creating a structure that means every person in the room contributes 100% of the time. This leads to more engagement, more commitment and more powerful collective problem solving.

Learn by doing.

The LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® method uses a unique collection of LEGO bricks as tools to help people express ideas and thought processes in incredibly rich detail. This could be expressing an abstract idea,  thinking through a solution or just arriving at an answer to a particularly probing question.  The bricks help people form and then articulate their ideas in 3D, rather than the usual 2D post-it notes. This creates a vibrant, visual style of communication that helps people get on the same page quickly.SPW_BRICK_ORANGE

Ignite powerful conversations.

There’s a remarkable thing that happens when you ask someone to build a model of what they’re thinking or feeling. For reasons we’re yet to fully understand, it’s almost impossible to hide your true thoughts in a LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® session. The bricks depersonalise the issues being discussed and this leads to powerful, productive conversations where people feel comfortable discussing the real issues that need to be surfaced.

Forge deeper connections.

When challenges are multi-faceted and solutions are diverse, it can be hard to understand how actions and outcomes connect. LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® helps us map out how our ideas are connected and how they can impact one another. The maps that develop are built by the team, meaning every person in the group has a remarkable grasp of how the group’s perspectives relate and connect.

Make better decisions.

Let your team practice “what if” scenarios in real-time, getting visibility of how different decisions could help or hinder their goals. This type of scenario planning prepares teams to think clearly under pressure, giving them experience that they can draw on if they encounter one of those “what if” scenarios out in the wild.

Create real commitment.

When a team shares an experience like LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY®, which can be both exhilarating and mentally exhausting, they develop a far deeper sense of connection to one another and the challenge being addressed. This means that post-workshop commitment to actions is exceptionally strong, as is their continuing understanding of the issue, solutions and vision for the team.
